Porn Film Festival Amsterdam
Social media
Sex sells. Until it doesn't.

Have you ever tried growing an audience for a NSFW brand on Instagram? While avoiding getting shadow banned? And still trying to keep people intrigued? How do you promote a Porn Film Festival without showing a single nipple or butt crack? Let me show you.
2024
To start growing the audience, I developed a consistent visual language and tone. I used intriguing stills of the films and encouraged the audience to find more information elsewhere.
I am completely transparent about the issues we face with censorship and invite our community to help spread our message. And they do! All our growth has been organic thanks to our community.

We don't financially promote any of our digital ads or use hashtags, because we don't want to confront an unsuspecting audience with the festival content. We're happy for people to push their boundaries once they're at the festival but we work hard not to disrupt the spaces of people who might not be receptive to our messages.

Tips on how to engage the community:
- Tag your people 💜 Your filmmakers, volunteers, venues, everyone.
- Make beautiful content that people want to share.
- Make content that matters. Stand for something. Let people see their virtues in your message.
- Ask. Seriously. Ask your community to engage and share. They'll surprise you.
A quick snapshot of our 2024 content:
2025
2025 posed new challenges: creeping shadow bans, inconsistent usage policies and many many events that needed to be promoted. Our content also needed to stay fresh and intriguing so people want to watch it and share it.

So...
- I focused on video content
- I created a SFW back up page for the account (Corn Film Festival Amsterdam 😉)
- I created accounts on BlueSky and Fetlife
- We engaged other communities (people with disabilities, s/x workers, migrants from the global south etc.)
🔶 Some sexy sexy data
As our main communication platform, we use Instagram to sell tickets, promote the program, connect with the community and spotlight filmmakers. The page gets very busy over the festival period, giving us lots of engagement and driving sales.
